Through Self-Respect and Regard We Find That Much Sought-After Experience Called Self-Worth

You will change your world as you work on developing regard for yourself – demanding and encouraging consideration, mindfulness, requiring that others make the mental effort to understand you or your situation, not accepting irresponsibility, tardiness, shallowness, thoughtlessness, and empty promises based on a lack of attentive thought. You will create your inner and outer model of what it means to regard self and others. You will develop all those attitudes, thoughts and behaviours that belong to this function.

And here’s the best part: At the same time, you will be developing the capacity to find and maintain a fantastic personal relationship and to find and maintain mature, functional facilitative and enjoyable work outcomes.

Thus, “holding someone in your regard” or “being held in regard” by someone is one of the important and real ways in which people achieve connection with each other. Holding someone in regard is when we connect to that person by means of holding them in our minds in a particular way. Regard is the key to happy and successful personal relationships, the key to finding a love that lasts, the key to successful business functioning and the key to working with differences – between strangers, family, work and nations.

Regard does not require love or even liking – it is the human capacity to take into account or, to remember to consider, someone or something and to consider that person or thing to be an important factor in some decision and to include it if necessary.

It is applying careful thought or attention – being thoughtful. It means making the mental effort to understand a situation or a person and giving careful thought before making a decision or issuing an invitation. It means forethought so that one can plan and it means carefully examining your own thoughts, feelings and ideas.

‘Regard’ is the means and manner by which we live and know that much sought-after experience called self-worth and self-esteem.
